StarCraft II to be made available for download via Battle.net 2.0

During Activision Blizzard's financial conference call with analysts today, the publisher revealed that not only will Battle.net 2.0 be integrated with the upcoming launch of StarCraft II but Blizzard's long-in-development sci-fi RTS game will be available to download from the upgraded Battle.net service as well.

Obviously this is a big change for the online service which has mainly been a matchmaking operation. The upcoming revamp of the service, which is expected to go live when the multiplayer beta test of StarCraft II goes live, has previously been shown to allow for downloads of maps and mods but this is the first indication that the service will be used to let players purchase and download full games.
