Champions Online to make its first expansion free to play

While Cryptic Studios has been concentrating a lot of its energy for the launch of Star Trek Online, they haven't forgotten their other MMO game Champions Online. However the developer has taken some heat recently from players of the super hero MMO because of a large patch that didn't work as anticipated. Players also feel that Cryptic hasn't been listening to the fan's feedback on the game's issues.

In a new State of the Game address, Cryptic announced they plan to give more time to test future patches for the game internally before it releases the patch to the public. It also plans to expand communications to the Champions Online community with a variety of outlets including new blogs, a regular IRC chat and more. Finally they have decided to make their first major content expansion to the game free to its subscribers. The expansion, titled Revelation, will add a new area to the game and will pit players against the "half-angel / half-demon Therakiel" who wants to bring about the end of the world (geeze the nerve of some half-angel/half-demons). The expansion will be released in March with more info on Revelation due in the coming weeks.
