Mass Effect 2 PC multi-core CPU issue workaround released
A software developer has created a utility called MassAffinity that, after a brief set up, fixes the issue automatically when you run the app with Mass Effect 2. Obviously this is a third party program not made by BioWare so download and use at your own risk. However if you are experiencing these long Normandy load times and don't want to wait for the developer to issue a patch this is better than nothing.

This is the first I've heard of long load times on ME2. I know Dragon Age has the same problem on computers with AMD chipsets (I've experienced first hand, nearly 10 minute load times), but I've been playing ME2 for about 6 hours straight with no more than 10 seconds per loading screen.
Either it's a problem with the hardware, or Bioware hasn't been playtesting as thoroughly as they should.

I have quad-core too. i havent had any problems :/Posted at 4:49AM on Feb 7th 2010 by Sam
Yeah, quad core and no problems whatsoever.
Some of the load times are artificially long though due to having to complete a loading animation before proceeding, so I just replaced those loading animation .bik files with the main ME2 logo fade. Reduces load times to like 2 seconds on quickload and planet landing transitions. Posted at 11:56PM on Feb 7th 2010 by Brian
my quad is fine too, maybe its only for dual cores?Posted at 3:43AM on Feb 8th 2010 by acme
Damn....So that's it. I had the problem on Win7, Intel E8400 and G43 chipset (nVidia GTX260 graphics, not the integrated GMA). Waiting at least 30 seconds for any loading throughout my gameplay. However, I noticed that after 6-7 hours of not exiting ME2, my load times were drastically reduced. Unfortunately, the next day (exiting ME2) they were all long again. And no HDD activity, no GPU activity, but 100% CPU usage (both cores). And I was too cought up to check the net for other reports.Posted at 4:49AM on Feb 8th 2010 by Mathew7
So not only is the game not optimized for multi-core.. it actually runs worse on some multi-core CPUs compared to single cores? This is 2010, not 2004... :-SPosted at 9:26AM on Feb 8th 2010 by Jimmy
Why not just right click on the executable and setthe affinity manually instead of using a third party hack that does god knows what? if anything other than setting the affinity for lazy people?Posted at 4:56PM on Feb 8th 2010 by lanlord
I can assure you it's no "hack". The program does *exactly* the same thing a user would do to set processor affinity. The only additional thing is does is automate the task.
If you don't mind loading up Task Manager and switching out and back into the game, then don't use the app. Simple as that. But please don't be a scaremonger. If you believe my program is doing something bad, it's written in .NET and can be *easily* disassembled, so much so I'd be an idiot to try and hide something.
I should also mention that a few blogs and news sites have been incorrectly saying this is a "multi-core" fix. The problem only appears on dual-core systems, and even then only certain configurations. If you have a quad-core, the you should be fine.

Logan

I have a dual-Core overcloacked and had Zero problems with this game in fact all specs are maxed out and still runs smooth just finished the game 3 days ago.
Also for the long load time most load screens only take 5 seconds it was just the ones before a long movie/Cut-Scene that caused the loading to increase but only by a few more seconds..Posted at 8:47PM on Feb 16th 2010 by Anon

Weird. I have a multi-core PC, and I never experienced any prolonged load times.Posted at 8:27PM on Feb 6th 2010 by that guy rom
