On Friday, the long awaited MMO Star Trek Online will open up its servers for folks who have pre-ordered the game from developer Cryptic Studios and publisher Atari (everyone else gets to play when the game ships to stores on February 2). it's been a long wait for Trek fans who have had to endure the shut down of the game's previous developer Perpetual Entertainment before Cryptic took over development two years ago.
On the eve of the Early Start launch, Cryptic posted up a State of the Game message on their web site with a preview of what's to come in Star Trek Online. There's more threats from the Borg in the full game (including a five player raid where you get to face off with the Borg Queen). The dev team is already working on the first content update which will add more Klingon exploration content, more PvP and other stuff. And of course the team will be fixing bugs and issue in the game as well.
