Aliens Vs Predator Classic 2000 now available via Steam

It looks like things have moved faster than first thought for the release of the original PC Aliens Vs Predator. The game from developer Rebellion, now known as Aliens Vs Predator Classic 2000, is now available via Steam for a mere $4.99. This port contains both the original version of the game (released in 1999) plus content from the Gold version that was released in 2000.

This version also includes music from the game's official soundtrack and has been ported to use the Xbox 360 Controller for Windows. Multiplayer support is not yet available but as we reported earlier Rebellion plans to add multiplayer support via a free patch later.

So has the game been updated with compatibility for Windows 7 and Vista? I have seen a lot of older games on Steam that have had nothing done to them to allow them to work on newer operating systems.

its justg been updated to work with mordern tech.

According to Steam forum, it seems to run well under Vista, and it even has native support for widescreen. Should run well for Win7 as well, and both OS are listed as supported in the Steam store page.Posted at 3:01PM on Jan 15th 2010 by Unknown

It doesn't have online because the original only supported TCP/IP and modem connections. The only downsides I have noticed so far is the dodgy mouse smoothing which bugs up for me when using steam in-game, the different controls (no crouch independent to alien's 'climb', toggle climb, ect - I'm sure I can bind some with patience) and the british in-game videos; I much preferred the 'colonial marine' than this whackjob. No offence, brits. At least I can play it with dx9 now. I was getting sick of 20meter draw distance errors every time I was feeling nostalgic.

Sure, it's a short game (already at about 50% through on Director's Cut difficulty; but then again I know this game like the back of my hand), but for the price... Especially with a MP patch in the works. Give it a go, guys.

And yes, it definitely will keep me going until AvP(3) comes out. Long live my very first FPS game!

yeah you're really paying for multiplayer support here. I've been waiting 10 years for online multiplayer in this game. WELL worth it. runs smooth, well put together, and very much a classic video game.

To watch the original American actors from the original game that came out in 1999 you can copy the folder off the original 1999 version disc called FMV, then paste it in C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\aliens versus predator classic. It will overwrite the folder thats already in there with the British actors.

Make sure you rename the folder thats in there originally to say FMV_old and cut and paste it somewhere else for safe keeping before you transfer the one off the disc.Posted at 4:28PM on Mar 16th 2010 by NitroTab

Sorry, my first post about overwriting the FMV folder is slightly wrong, don't overwrite the FMV folder thats originally in: C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\aliens versus predator classic.

Just rename it FMV_old and cut and paste it to a safe location, then transfer the FMV folder from the original 1999 version disc to C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\aliens versus predator classic.
