  1. Summary
  2. Background
  3. Hype
BioShock was one of the biggest games of 2007. It had a narrative that completely blew most reviewers and players out of the water (pun intended), and solid gameplay backing the engrossing story. A sequel is natural to a game this massively popular, but there's a minor hitch. The developer has moved on to a new project, leaving BioShock 2 in the hands of another development team. This is a possible recipe for disaster, even though parts of the new developers were in the original development team. One has to look at something like this and be critical of the anticipation and hype, as many of the designers that made the original game so great have moved on to other projects, and part of what made BioShock so good (the spiritual continuation of the venerable System Shock franchise) isn't present any more. Still, there's lots of information on BioShock, so let's dig some of it up.
