Star Trek is a beloved series adored by countless fans across the world. It's received some good games (
Elite Force) and some bad ones (almost every game before
Elite Force). However, despite all of the potential for it, there has never been an MMO in the
Star Trek universe. Until now. While it's seen a long, convoluted, and even a slightly controversial development time, it's almost to its release under a new developer. That developer is Cryptic Studios, makers of the esteemed
City of Heroes and
Champions Online franchises, and under their guidance
Star Trek Online has grown into a much more interesting game. It's currently going through closed beta, but it won't be much longer until it is released to us in the consumer world. Naturally, it's been building up quite a bit of hype, and that can be fatal for an ambitious MMO. So let's cut it down a little to more realistic standards.
