While there was recently a player-led revolt over changes in in-game item pricing in Battlefield Heroes, that has not change the growth of registered players for the free-to-play WWII multiplayer shooter. Today publisher Electronic Arts has announced that the game from developer Digital Illusions has registered 3 million players since its launch last June.
This week a new map for the game, Sunset Showdown, has also been released giving players a new battleground to fight over. You can check out screenshots from the map in the new gallery below. While there may be some people with the changes in the in-game item price, the game's general manager Ben Cousins states, "The vast majority of our players play for free . . . " EA has never given any official revenue figures for the game although third party evidence indicates Battlefield Heroes has generated tens of millions of dollars from the sale of weapon upgrades and character customizations.
