Big Download got a chance to ask some questions to Kathryn Dutchin, the producer of the game, to find out more about their plans and also get an update on Stargate Worlds.
First, how much can you comment on Cheyenne Mountain's current status in general and the status of Stargate Worlds? Has development of that game been put on hold while work is done on Stargate Resistance?
Cheyenne had a top team developing a persistent online shooter when the economy went belly up, and our funding dried up. Since Worlds, at that time, was at its peak burn, and very expensive, and we were also facing some of our toughest technical challenges with that title, to make it robust and ready for market, it became impossible to sustain the company as it was then configured
Since we are privately funded, our investment group felt very strongly that a title be released within a short time frame. But with minimal funding, there was no way to finish Stargate Worlds within the time frame and funds we had that would serve the fans and the game well. So, building and releasing Stargate Resistance became the best option for Cheyenne, and its investors, to ride out the economic wave, and keep Stargate Worlds on the top tier it deserves.
The team has had enormous fun developing Resistance, and we're very excited about this title. We're no less anxious to finish Worlds, but this title has been a blast, and we're excited to see it becoming ready to ship.
How did the idea for Stargate Resistance come about and how long has the game been in development?
We listened to the fans! One of the most persistent requests we have received from the fans is for the type of fast paced, action oriented combat that you see on the SG-1 series. Being able to use a P90 machine gun to assault a group of System Lords or conversely to bust into the Stargate Command and raise havoc is an experience we are excited to bring to Stargate Resistance. Stargate Resistance has been in full production since September.
What was the reaction by MGM to your Stargate Resistance proposal and have you gotten any feedback from the producers of the TV series?
Both MGM and the show producers are excited and looking forward to release.

What would you say are the major game influences for Stargate Resistance?
Expanding on the fans' request for a shooter style game, we sat down and considered our favorite features from multitudes of games within the genre. We gave special consideration to games that utilized team based strategies and of course games that we ourselves had fun playing. Then we combine that with game types and maps that made sense within the Stargate Universe.
What can you tell us about the two playable factions and the six playable classes in the game?
Stargate Resistance revolves around the classic conflict of the Stargate Command vs. the System Lords. The System Lords are mounting a massive assault across the galaxy, using the Stargates to raid strong worlds of precious resources, or invade those they believe they can enslave and control. The humans of Stargate Command are the only organized resistance to this new threat. Like their foes, they use the Stargate to travel to alien worlds and defend them against the ravages of the System Lords.
The combat between the factions in Stargate Resistance is asymmetrical. The Stargate Command team is well armed and well equipped, specializing in ranged defense. Available classes are the Soldier, Commando and Scientist. The System Lords on the other hand use stealth and alien tech to close in quickly on their prey. Their classes are the Goa'uld, Jaffa, and Ash'rak. While every class has tools to use against every other class, the tactics of the factions are very different.
