Back to the event. The visuals were nice, the food tasty, but aside from the demo, the real joy of the evening was hearing Design Director and Monkey Island co-founder Dave Grossman eulogize Guybrush Threepwood.
Grossman presented himself well, though he must have been weeping copiously on the inside. He recounted Guybrush's early days as a firedancer, never quite finding his way until the day his fishing boat was attacked by pirates. He was struck with the larger-than-life derring-do of the swashbucklers and from that day forth decided to spend his time becoming the best pirate he could be.
Grossman went on to mention how Guybrush would occasionally attack the odd fishing boat, even when he was well on his way to notoriety for his own name, in hopes of sparking the imagination of some other wayward youth. A way of giving back to the community, as it were.

After the eulogy, guests were invited to continue eating, drinking, and checking out the upstairs demo for a couple more hours until the event closed for the night. On their way out, people were invited to share their reminiscences of Guybrush Threepwood by writing in a journal near the door. We abstained, however; our memories of the Mighty Pirate™ are not for the faint of heart, nor are they even easily put into words.
As for the future of the Monkey Island franchise, mum's the word. Telltale will only say that they have ideas for further storylines, but as an exercise in testing the shark-infested waters, the series has certainly been a success. Will there be a Season Two? Only time will tell. Here's hoping we get to find out sooner rather than later.
For now, though, we say a fond farewell to Guybrush and his adventures on the high seas. Remember to grab the demo right here on Big Download next week Tuesday the 8th -- the original voice of LeChuck, Earl Boen, is back! And don't forget to have a look at the concept art/screenshot gallery embedded in the first page of this post. Goodbye, Guybrush, we hardly knew ye scurvy dog.
