Left 4 Dead 2 Guide: Flee the Parish

It's been a year since the incredibly addicting and entertaining zombie killfest Left 4 Dead was unleashed, and Valve has released its sequel to an excited consumer base. Filled with Spitters, Witches, Fuel, and Cola, it's a great new romp for those that loved the original. It's also much more difficult. For those that can't handle what the new AI Director is throwing at them, don't worry. We've got your back with this handy guide!

It's time to enter the Crescent City. You've been progressing through a variety of Deep South locations, but you haven't quite hit one of the most major: New Orleans. This is the setting of The Parish, the one campaign which doesn't stick all that well to its name. Regardless, this is the end of the road for our Left 4 Dead 2 heroes, as they aim to escape in a military chopper to a safe zone. Assuming it doesn't crash like the chopper from Dark Carnival did. Regardless, prepare for some more daylight action and a unique and pulse-pounding finale.

Stage 1: Waterfront

Setting: Virgil has finally gone as far as he is willing to go, which is Crescent City, otherwise known as New Orleans. While it is never stated explicitly, the architecture and general feel of the town is very much New Orleans. You are dropped off at a small dock on the waterfront, and must make your way to the huge bridge in the horizon. Unfortunately, this also means trekking through a huge amount of Infected on your way there. The safehouse is located in a random grocery store.

General Tips

  • Unlike the demo, the start of this campaign has a much larger weapon variety at the beginning. Grab your weapon of choice and blast away.
  • Sometimes there are guns hidden within the doorways of buildings, so don't overlook the structures around you as you make your way through.
  • Due to the complex nature of the normal path through this level, it is best if you take somebody along who already knows the route before you play this campaign.

Stage 2: Park

Setting: Having made your way through the dock district, it's time for a change in scenery. By that, we mean you must head through the park. The Park takes up roughly one third of this level, but the Crescendo Event is not actually located inside it. Instead, the Crescendo Event is at the very end of the level, right before the safe room. It's also quite unique. The safehouse is located in what appears to be a restaurant or store.

Crescendo Event: The Crescendo Event for this stage is incredibly entertaining because it acts as a race of sorts. You must lock yourself in a trailer and stock up. Once you are ready, you will open the trailer door, which sets off an alarm at the center of a maze of wire fences. YOu must sprint through the maze to shut off the alarm or get overwhelmed. This usually ends up with survivors sprinting as fast as they can to the alarm, joking about winning the amazing race. After the alarm is turned off, Infected will continue to come for a minute or two, so just stick around and gun them down as necessary.

General Tips

  • The park has a ton of supplies everywhere. Make sure to check the bathrooms, tunnel, central fountain, and gazebo for new weapons, first aid kits, pills, and special ammunition.
  • Thanks to the hedges of the park, it is easy to get separated from your comrades. Try and stick together in groups of 2 if you accidentally split up.
  • The maze in the Crescendo Event is not an actual maze, as it's just a simple path. However, it does loop back in on itself several times and feels like a maze.
