Left 4 Dead 2 Guide: Flood of Hard Rain, Page 2

Stage 3: Mill Escape

Setting: It's time to start your trek back to the docks. Unfortunately, it is now dark. Even worse, the town is being hammered by a particularly heavy storm that is flooding everywhere. You must make your way back through the sugar mill to the safehouse you stopped by on your way out. Thankfully, there's no more Witches in the sugar mill, just the standard array of Special, Uncommon, and Common Infected.

Crescendo Event: It's hard to really say if this is a Crescendo Event, but it certainly feels like one. Periodically (and at the whim of the AI director) the winds and rain will pick up, drowning out all voice communication, including people's voice chat. It also makes it incredibly hard to hear anything at all, and often times is accompanied by a horde. Your best bet to survive during these events is to simply stick to the high ground and gun down anything that approaches. If you get knocked into the water, make it back to the high ground as quickly as possible, but don't get yourself killed in your zeal.

General Tips

  • Remember that high ground you scoped out during the last stage? Stick to it. You can make it through most of the stage without ever getting in the water, which speeds your progress up considerably and makes you less vulnerable.
  • Any supplies you grabbed on the way through the previous stage will be gone, but supplies you left will still be there. Use everything you need.
  • Jockeys and Smokers are your worst enemies on this stage, because they grab and pull you off of the high ground with the greatest of ease.

Stage 4: Return to Town

Setting: It's time to head back into town, which is just as flooded as the sugar mill was. However, one of the houses has opened up to reveal a safehouse packed with supplies for your beleagured party. You must make your way through the flood to the safehouse. This stage uses the same Crescendo Event as the previous, but with some twists.

Crescendo Event: Once again, you will be blinded and deafened by the roaring winds and torrential downpour. However, unlike the previous stage, you will have to make your way around through the water flooding the town. The town has high ground that can act as makeshift forts during the pick-up in the storm, and they should definitely be utilized. The best is the treehouse, which is a great place to funnel Infected through to kill.

General Tips

  • The safehouse is in a different location, as the game sets it up right before the finale. This safehouse is still loaded with goodies, so don't be afraid to load up.
  • The yard sales and houses that you passed on the way in will still be there with supplies, so loot as needed. The yard sale in particular usually has a weapon or two and a grenade, so definitely look for it to restock as necessary.

Stage 5: Town Escape

Setting: As Nick carelessly forgot the flares to summon the boat, the survivors must somehow signal their escape to come. Enter the fast food sign right outside the dock. Once you are ready, you will need to trigger it in order to start the event. That's it. It's a standard defense finale, albeit without an emplaced gun to help you out.

Finale: After triggering the light, the finale will start. This finale is not as tough as the Swamp Fever finale, as you will not face multiple tanks at one time. However, the ground is totally flooded, which slows you down a lot. There are two ladders up to the roof, and if any survivor is knocked off of the roof they should immediately make their way back. THe roof has a hole in the center that lets you drop to get supplies, so drop down if you need to heal up or get more ammo. After two hordes and two tanks, the boat will come.

General Tips

  • There are no advanced weapons in the finale area, so you have to make do with whatever you have grabbed along the way. Likewise, nothing has respawned, so whatever grenades or health packs you took at the start of the campaign will be missing.
  • If you drop down for supplies, the ladder in the cooking area is the faster way up, as it's right nearby.
  • There's not a lot of destructible objects like gas cans, but there are usually a few, so use the limited resources to your advantage.
  • The rain can and will pick up during the finale, so be prepared to lose a lot of visibility and sound. If you time it right and kill enemies like crazy, it should only ever happen once.
