CrimeCraft latest game banned in Australia
It's currently unknown why CrimeCraft was not given a rating in Australia although we are betting the title's violent content has something to do with it. As the web site Refused-Classification.com points out CrimeCraft is the fifth game title to be denied a rating in that country in 2009. Three of those games (Necrovision, Left 4 Dead 2 and the WiiWare game Sexy Poker) have since been given a rating by the country's classification board after edits were made to each title. The other game, the RPG title Risen, is still banned for sale in Australia.

The funny thing about all these games being banned is that they don't really stop people getting their hands on them - I had an uncensored copy of GTA IV (while only the censored version was available for sale), I have an uncensored copy of L4D2, and there's nothing you can do about it.
Probably worth noting: if there was an R rating for games, I'd bet you anything most stores wouldn't sell R-rated games. AFAIK in the US most stores won't sell AO games, and here most DVD stores won't sell R rated DVDs - and for the ones that do, there are ridiculous fines involved if you sell them to anyone under 18.Posted at 5:31PM on Nov 29th 2009 by Slashee the Cow
I'm not sure why anyone outside of Australia should care anymore. This isn't the first game to be banned in that country and it won't be the last. A pity.Posted at 2:49AM on Nov 30th 2009 by Ladron
Let it be known that I don't support censorship in any way shape or form... but in CrimeCraft's case, I'll make an exception. That game looks aweful and the in-game ads are beyond reproach. The quicker it crashes and burns, the better.

Australia's game-rating system is absolutely pathetic. It doesn't just hurt gamers, it belittles the medium.
Their film industry embraces a film about a woman sexually abusing her mentally disabled son, but a game with a bit of blood is bang out of order. Tsch.
That said, I'd probably want to ban CrimeCraft too, if only because of the name. I bet they actually considered calling it World of CrimeCraft.Posted at 1:37PM on Nov 29th 2009 by asfm
