Infinity Ward targets PC Modern Warfare 2 cheaters

Infinity Ward has said using Steam's VAC anti-cheat system for the PC version of Modern Warfare 2 was going to be their way to deal with players using cheats and hacks in the multiplayer portion of the first person shooter. However, as we have reported on before, there have already been many claims that cheaters and hackers have made their presence known in PC multiplayer games.

Now it looks like bans for at least some players are either on their way or already in place. Infinity Ward's community manager Robert Bowling has a post on his Twitter site that responds to a fan's request to take care of PC cheaters. Bowling says, "In fact, the Steam ban hammer is coming down on about 2,500 confirmed #MW2 cheaters on PC today." That post was made on Friday so it's possible the ban hammer has already been thrown. How effective these efforts will be in dealing with cheaters remains to be seen.
