Borderlands PC to unlock at midnight ET on Monday

Earlier this week we reported that a few people managed to purchase legit copies of the PC version of Borderlands. The problem is that the street date for Gearbox Software's FPS-RPG is supposed to be on Monday, October 26 and due to the game's DRM set up those folks who got early copies cannot play the game early. Even Gearbox Software's Randy Pitchford told us there was nothing that could be done on his end to solve this issue.

Now a new post on the message boards of 2K Games from the publisher's community manager has the somewhat sad truth that there is nothing they can do either. According to the post, "Less than 1 (percent) of all copies were sold, and if we unlocked the game today, illegal versions would most likely appear on torrents by the evening. I am sure all of you want our PC launch to be as successful as possible, and we simply won't be able to manage that any earlier than already planned." So for those of you in the US "lucky" enough to get the game early, your copy will be available to play at midnight ET on Monday. International owners will have to wait until Friday, October 30.

The really stupid thing here is that after a quick search of some well known torrent sites, I was able to find hacked 360 copies. The idea that piracy only happens on the PC is bullshit.Posted at 6:15PM on Oct 24th 2009 by Kevin

The 360 version was hacked on the 16th. The PC version has not been hacked yet. How about you quit with the wind up our rears and admit you get a bigger profit from the console versions......

And they wonder why sales end up hurting. How much bad blood have you guys created? How many honest paying customers are content to wait and D/L the game from a torrent site now that they have been butt raped by a company they were ready to spend money on? You can site Pitchford and defend him and gearbox, you can blame the distributor, you can blame securom....In the end it is Gearbox's fault. They chose the distributor........ They chose to allow securom.......
They allowed the PC version to be thrown on the back burner.

I preordered my copy from Direct2Drive, and I cannot download it yet (6:46am, October 26). A quick Torrent search now shows a few PC versions kicking around among the slew of 360 copies.Posted at 6:48AM on Oct 26th 2009 by Kyle
