Modern Warfare 2 PC update: system specs, id Tech and Walmart price

Infinity Ward seems to have put a cone of silence now on their comments concerning the PC port of Modern Warfare 2 following the revelation this past weekend that they will do away with dedicated servers for the first person shooter. However it looks like GameStop's back cover artwork for the PC version has revealed a couple of extra pieces of info. One is the minimal system requirements for the game:
  • OS: Windows Vista/XP
  • Processor: AMD 64 3200+ or Intel Pentium 4 3.0Ghz or better
  • Memory: 16 GB free hard drive space / 512 MB RAM (XP) / 1 GB RAM (Vista)
  • Video Card: Shader 3.0 or better 256 MB nVidia Geforce 6600GT / ATI Radeon 1600XT or better
The other interesting thing after checking the box art is that after all these years, Infinity Ward is still using graphics technology that's based on id Software's tech as the box reveals the game uses software from the Doom and Quake developer.

Finally it looks like Walmart's price for the game has been changed. Previously the retailer's web site had put the PC version's pre-order price at $49.82. Now that price has been raised to $59.82, which is in line with every other retail outlet. The good news? Buying the game from Walmart now gets you a free $20 eGift card instead of one that's valued at $10. That effectively keeps the price down to $39.82. Amazon.com has a similar deal for the PC version but it appears that their electronic gift card can only be used to help buy another video game from the retailer.
