League of Legends open beta begins ahead of October 27 launch
As promised, Riot Games has now launched the open beta test for League of Legends, their upcoming free-to-play action-RTS game that's heavily influenced on the Warcraft III mod Defense of the Ancients. People who play in the beta can hold onto their player accounts when the "final" version officially launches on October 27, both online and in retail stores.
As we reported earlier this month the game will launch in what Riot Games is calling its "pre-season" mode. The idea is to use this time for players to learn the ins and outs of the game while the development team does more polishing of the title. The first real competitive "season" for League of Legends will launch sometime in the first half of 2010.
