No dedicated servers for Modern Warfare 2 PC; Infinity Ward to run matchmaking service
Instead, Bowling said that Infinity Ward will be handling all the multiplayer servers for the game themselves under their own IW.net system for matchmaking and server support. He did say there will be private server support for players who wanted to create their own custom matches. IW.net will be run in conjunction with Steam which will include VAC anti-cheating support.
Naturally the news of no dedicated server support has many hardcore fans of the previous games in an uproar, especially those folks who have set up dedicated servers for previous games in the series (and even charging money for hosting those servers) and won't be able to do so for Modern Warfare 2. Bowling admits this is a big change but says the reason for their moves is to give the average PC gamer a better experience playing the game online. Bowling admitted that he did not know about the status for mod support for the PC version or if such mods could be hosted by the new IW.net.
By the way, Bowling also stated that the PC version of the game is not delayed and is still scheduled for a November 10 release. A number of web sites posted up unconfirmed reports of a delay a couple of weeks ago but we choose not to report on those rumors since there was no real proof of a delay.

Well, they obviously forgot about us pc gamers. Although I love call of duty 4 as much as the next guy, I will not buy it. I just had a look at battlefield: bad company 2 for march 2, 2010. They even specifically state that they WILL have dedicated servers, as a response to the moder warfare debacle! loooool
I really hope those guys from infinity ward will learn something from this :)

LOL, better online experience. I snagged this to try for something to kill time, I played 7 matchs only in 1 did I not lag the game. MW1 no lag. Better online experience.... rightPosted at 11:19AM on Nov 13th 2009 by Ell
pc gammer is never casual. We are old school and know what we want. PC is the home of the fps shooter and COD series has a long term history with pc's. Thanks, for ending it. You know the software sales for 360 and ps3 will do good, but yet still cut corners with the pc. GREED! The 2 consoles sales can easily support the fewer sales of the pc version. You figure, if you had a dedicated servers, that would be more sales for the software. Not only you upset the pc gamming community, but i'm sure you upset the hardware companies.. example: videocard companies that would package your game with it. I dunno about you folks but I have had this happen to me already one: Been on a server full of people playing and then suddenly got a message "migrating hosts" and me and EVERYONE else on that server were "paused" and moved to a different server MID GAME
not only that but find a game is a pain in the ass. I see taht it says 7000+ folks playing but then it takes forever for it to find a server for me to play. This is the lamest server selection system I have ever seen in any game PERIOD! Posted at 7:30PM on Nov 16th 2009 by American_B^D^SS
yeah cant believe they call any pc gamer "casual" Casual gamers are the people who pay a couple hundred bucks for a gaming console... not dish out 1000+ for a pc that will play these 3d fps games. Posted at 7:30PM on Nov 16th 2009 by American_B^D^SS
Hi All,
I have had pc's well since my first zx81, and have watched the pc grow into a most incredible piece of technology. It go's without saying it is a machine capable of a host of capabilities not just gaming but in business, design, art, data manipulation, finance, website creation etc etc the list is endless to its applications.
The friends I have made playing online are some of the finest people I have met, and in all honesty all seem to be very mature, fun and friendly people to enjoy playing online. They spend more money on their hardware than any console user and this shows in their respect to other who are like minded. My worry is that in all the Cod series (which I have played), is that it was our choice to which servers we could enter and play and to be honest different servers especially clan servers would employ their own rules to which they find produces a better game, and in turn would provide a perfect place to play with the choice available. The dedicated servers would often to link to a clan or server forum in which you could just say "hi", or report any abuse, rule breaking etc etc, and if you were known and a regular user of the server action would often take place in the form of a bann, to stop this happening.
Now this new IWnet idea is total popicock. We have the same game as the consoles, and without being disrespectful to the more mature console user tha bulk of the console users are little more than kids, who think getting shot in game is to do with the enemy, camping, cheating, lag, or any other reason apart that they are well, "not as good as the player", they have come up against, and the last thing they would do is even consider typing or saying "Good Game", to their rival. PC's are and should lways be "Big Boyz Toyz", and the PC community has made COD over the years. COD4 MW, saw the communiy mods AWE, etc etc spring up and the ideas for these mods and more become "official", in the next COD release. All this will now dissapear in a huge puff of smoke.
The grandaddy FPS "Medal of Honor", only ever had 1 patch, under 10mb, yet to get the very best from it CKR realism 1.1 made this the game which people played for years and years. Then came COD and with United Offensive saw huge maps, tank driving, jeeps, great gameplay, and again a choice of fun servers to which we could choose to play, so has COD inproved over the years................not with this release, in fact I think we all know it is a total slap the pc users face. I have been a customer of COD and in business is'nt it correct to produce what the people want ?, in stead I feel ripped off and betrayed, yeh some will say "its only a game", to its not so much the game its the people who make up the communities behind it. IWnet hasn't implemented any tool to allow kicking or banning certain players who just enter a server shouting abuse down the built in comms, and typing all kinds of dirty lowlife remarks into the server, while all we are trying to do is play and have a bit of fun. This has happened on numerous occasions since buying CODMW2, and on previous versions of the game an admin could warn and kick the offending player, now we have to either leave because of such moronic individuals or just simply switch off and not play. So thank you Infinity Ward your game has took a giant leap into kiddie console land, with its immature attitudes and childish remarks, to which you have created, and while creating such a server atmosphere you have successfully destroyed a community that helped make the game such a big success over the past years. Now im off to play ARMA2 a game which is backed by its community and have respect from its software house.Posted at 8:42AM on Nov 18th 2009 by am1727

NO DEDICATED SERVERS?!!! How did they think we would take it???!?!??! I wouldn't have bought the game if I had known it was going to be incorporated into STEAM! Steam's such a shit piece of software.
It must be why the game is selling for £26, rather than £39. Infinity should have told us they were going to hook up with Steam, I won't to send my copy back, until they fix it without Steam. What a disappointment, what a great big con to the whole PC gaming community. Sad thing is it, seems to have worked.
Going to hire a team to build me a better game,
