Feature: Black Ops Games Redux Part 1 Two

Destineer's game: Revealed as Six Days In Fallujah

In our September 2008 Black Ops games article, we speculated that Destineer's new game would be about the spy genre since the developer had a grant to produce some kind of training games for the CIA. As it turned out, the game, under Destineer's Atomic Games studio, was the contraversial military shooter Six Days in Fallujah. Officially announced last spring, the game was to have been published by Konami. However the game was immediately slammed by many for, in their eyes, turning the real events of the current Iraq War into mere entertainment. A few weeks later Konami pulled their support of the game and most recently Atomic Games admitted to laying off many, if not most, of its team. Currently it's unknown if the game will ever be released.

S2 Games' project: Revealed as Heroes of Newerth

The indie game developer made two games in its Savage RTS-FPS hybrid series but S2 Games also hinted at an entirely new game they were working on. We commented on this game in our January 2009 Black Ops Games article. This summer that project was revealed as Heroes of Newerth, a RTS game that was clearly made as a stand alone variation of the Warcraft III mode Defense of the Ancients. Heroes of Newerth is in beta testing now and is expected to be released sometime before the end of the year.

Trion World Network's MMO game: Revealed as Heroes of Telara

In our January 2009 article, we were still wondering what MMO project that Trion World Network had up their sleeve. At E3, they finally showed off the game, Heroes of Telara, to the press. The fantasy-themed game looks promising but since E3 the company has gone back to its cone of silence about the game's progress.

CCP's FPS game: Revealed as Dust 514

Our January 2009 Black Ops Games article talked about CCP's hints of a first person shooter sci-fi game that they showed at their Fan Fest in 2008. This summer they finally revealed that their FPS project was called Dust 514. It's a game that will actually link in with events in their space-based PC MMO EVE Online. Unfortunately for PC gamers, Dust 514 has only been confirmed as a console game for now so we may have to wait a long time before their next PC project.

Check back later this week as we look back at the Black Ops games we previously listed that are still under the radar.
