  1. Summary
  2. Background
  3. Hype

There have been plenty of spy games over the years. Games like Goldeneye 007 or the classic Apogee game Secret Agent. However, they have always been action games, and very few of them have been based on unique properties. Sure, there's your James Bond, Sam Fisher, or Velvet Assassin, but where is a game about a customizable, unique-to-the-player fictional agent? Obsidian aims to fix this lack of spy-related shenanigans in the RPG genre in Alpha Protocol, an involved and customizable RPG. While it certainly builds itself up, Obsidian has always had a slightly more spotty track record next to its big brother BioWare. Sure, they made Fallout, but what about the incredibly buggy release of Neverwinter Nights 2? It has been a studio of ups and downs, and while Alpha Protocol certainly looks to be amazing, maybe it's time to take a critical eye to the revealed gameplay.
