League of Legends launches October 27; open beta beforehand
The time is getting close for the launch of the Defense of the Ancients-inspired online strategy-action game League of Legends. The game's official message boards have announced that the Riot Games-developed title will officially launch on October 27. That's also when the retail version of the free-to-play game will be made available in stores.
While the game is still in closed beta, the message post states that an short open beta will begin later this month and will end when the game officially launches. After that League of Legends will be in what they are calling "pre-season" mode. According to the post, "We believe that seasons are a great way to help facilitate competitive gaming and competitive communities." The pre-season time period will be used by players to learn the game and establish the community while the development team polishes the game itself. The first "season" will launch sometime in the first half of 2010.
