Boot Disk: Red Faction

Sometimes you just need to sit down, slide a floppy into your A: drive, and enjoy gaming retro style. We know this all too well! That's why we have a list of the best and brightest from days long gone. These are some of our favorite games of all time, and we're sure that you'll love them as much as we do, if not more. Welcome to a very special edition of Boot Disk, and enjoy the retro ride!

Many games today utilize some form of physics and mildly-destructible environments. In the case of games like Stranglehold, the set pieces are there pretty much so you can blow them away. This interactivity is not an old concept, as for the longest time shooting something in a first-person shooter simply applied a decal and called it at that. With the creation and subsequent release of Red Faction, all this was changed. It was the first of its kind: a game where the players could dynamically modify the terrain. While it was not used to quite the potential it promised, it still makes Red Faction one of the more interesting FPS games. With the release of Red Faction Guerrilla, the first two are now available through downloadable services for new FPS players to experience.
