It's hard to believe that the first Penny Arcade Expo was held in 2004 as a way for fans of the great Penny Arcade web strip to get together, play games and generally have a good time. It's now 2009 and the sixth annual Penny Arcade Expo is about to begin on Friday in Seattle and the once small fan event has now become the largest consumer gaming event in the US, eclipsing even E3 in attendance.

If you are one of those who are attending PAX for the first time this weekend you may be unaware of its short but meteoric history and growth.
