This weekend's Penny Arcade Expo will have a keynote address from Ron Gilbert, the man behind a bunch of the classic LucasArts adventure games and now the man behind Deathspank, his first major game project in 15 years. Developed by Hothead Games, the title is getting a multi-day preview at 1Up.com starting with the first concrete info and screenshots from the title.
While the game willl have some of that LucasArts adventure-style humor, it will also have some action-RPG elements as well, a la the Diablo series. Yes, you can fight, kill creatures, collect loot and level up in the game. The game itself will have 100 different armor items along with over 100 weapons. Deathspank currently has no release date and no set platform (although we suspect a ton of PC fans of his previous work would be very upset if Deathspank didn't show up on the PC).

Boy... that doesn't look very... um... interesting. As a hardcore adventure game fan, color me disappointed with the info and screens being released here. Looks like a lackluster Diablo wanna' be with a descent art style. But no, even though I've been following Ron Gilbert through all these years, DeathSpank is just a game that I'm interested in playing.
