Boot Disk: Heroes of Might and Magic 3
Sometimes you just need to sit down, slide a floppy into your A: drive, and enjoy gaming retro style. We know this all too well! That's why we have a list of the best and brightest from days long gone. These are some of our favorite games of all time, and we're sure that you'll love them as much as we do, if not more. Welcome to Boot Disk, and enjoy the retro ride!
It was only a few Boot Disks ago that I talked about my personal favorite in the Heroes of Might and Magic series. However, there is a different game in the series that has a better reputation than the one I prefer. The one game that is considered the favorite in the series by most is easily Heroes of Might and Magic 3, which has the best gameplay of any Might and Magic game to date. It was recently made available on GoG.com, and now that anyone can enjoy it, it's a definite must for any strategy fan. It reeks of retro style, and in the realm of strategy, retro is king.

Love to see HOMM 3 getting some love... I'm actually still playing my old copy, a fantastic game and a great deal on GOG. It's still a lot of fun after all these years.
But I've gotta ask... has the author played it? There are a lot of things on the column that aren't quite right... mines do not always have a pile of resources and an enemy, unit-producting structures can be used to increase the army growth rate of your towns, you can't hire regular or elite units (at least, not without a patch), the castle does act as a single screen for efficiently hiring armies... and so on and so forth.
But minor quibbles when considered against an article spotlighting a great game (and a great deal on gog). Heroes 2 and 3 are both still a lot of fun to play.Posted at 9:51AM on Sep 7th 2009 by Nixon

Been playing this on GoG. Amazing game and still very beautiful. The later engines the series used didn't capture the same look. Still holds up great. A true classic.
