Monte Cristo Games is apparently not willing to wait any longer for a US retail distribution deal for their city simulation Cities XL. On the games official web site the dev team has announced that the game will be self-published by them . . but will not be released (yet) in retail stores.
Rather the game will be made available via download from several established services like Direct2Drive, Steam, Impulse, GameTap and others. Cities XL will be released on October 9 from these outlets. If you are still not hip to the idea of downloading games, you can send in your money for a mail order release of a boxed version. Monte Cristo will even pay for your shipping charges.

Are the ads invasive? If we are talking pop ups or something that you have to work around, then good for you, they dont deserve your money. If were just talking real ads on billboards or something that doesn't actually interfere or ruin the aesthetic appeal, then personally I would let it slide.Posted at 12:57PM on Aug 27th 2009 by Solice

Well I hope the money they make off of in-game advertising makes up for my lost sale. I was on board with this game until they they started talking about the ads. Now, I'll skip entirely or maybe pick it up some day from a bargain bin for $10 or so. I refuse to pay money to be marketed to.
