Has Battlefield Heroes earned $30 million in micro-transactions?
According to DICE Battlefield Heroes now has 1.5 million players worldwide across 133 countries. DICE says that the average player has spent about $20 in the game via the "Battlefunds" set-up. IGN then does the math and suggests that if both the player numbers and the average amount they have spent is true then Battlefield Heroes could have generated a whopping $30 million in revenue so far. Keep in mind that that number was suggested by the IGN article and not Digital Illusions or EA. If the numbers are true than it looks like the game could be a highly profitable game indeed.

Damn if thats the case the game has made ten million dollars a week since release.
Considering Battlefield: Heroes couldn't have cost very much to make thats quite a considerable profit margin.
In fact with that kind of profit margin they have probably made more off this free game in the first 3 weeks than they did with Battlefield: Bad Company in its entire lifetime sales in terms or pure profit.
If this is true I bet a lot of developers will be turning away from paid games and developing this model further as the development costs are lower and the profit margins are higher.Posted at 11:14PM on Aug 12th 2009 by MoneyBags

I'm with Sokkratez on this one, they probably mean that of the players that spent money, they spent an average of $20. And the freeloaders weren't counted. Posted at 8:01PM on Aug 13th 2009 by mel

If it truly has made $30million I feel gaming has sunk to a new low. This game is shit and yet not only do people play it, but they buy stuff for it. I blame all the developers that had great games finished this summer, but are not going to release till this fall. The fact of the matter is not every great game deserves a holiday release date. If developers have a great game and release during summer they would bank because nothing comes out. Instead people play shit games like this to keep them entertained because developers think they got the next big thing. Then after not releasing during the summer where they could have had a chance they then opt to push back to next year fearing one particular stellar game that hits during the holiday season. Idiot developers make successful games like this one; what a big fail.Posted at 10:48PM on Aug 12th 2009 by Xanthonus
