Could Left 4 Dead 2 content work in Left 4 Dead 1?
Edge Online chatted with Valve's Chet Faliszek about the subject and he states, 'We're still struggling with how interoperability is going to work, right now." Part of the problem is that each game has a different set of characters and settings. Faliszek states, "There's a lot of back-and-forth. We haven't fixed on what we're doing yet, so we don't want to talk about it and make people think something is going to happen when we don't know ourselves." If they don't you can bet mod makers will put in Left 4 Dead 1 maps and characters into Left 4 Dead 2 on their own.

"The maps in Left 4 Dead 2 are going to have different paths every time you play, so I'd say no, it can't."
The title is not worded properly. It should say, "Will Left 4 Dead 1 maps, work with Left 4 Dead 2".
As for the dynamic pathways system, the director can control part of the enviromental layout, in certain parts of some of the maps. He can't control 100% of the path, in 100% of the maps.
For example, there is a level that has a cementary. The level is always the same, before and after the cementary. But the director dynamically decides the layout of the gravestones in the cementary. Allowing it to create different paths. But not every level, has a location that utilizes this. Every campaign is likely to have atleast one level, that does however.Posted at 4:29PM on Aug 7th 2009 by Ghostbuddy
