The PC game industry has seen digital downloads of games become more and more important thanks to inroads made by Steam, Direct2Drive and other companies. Now GameStop, the US's biggest game retailer, seems to be taking more of an interest in digital downloads. Today the company announced that it has hired someone to take on the role of a new position at GameStop that will focus on that business.
Chris Petrovic will take on the newly created position of General Manager, Digital Media at GameStop. The press release states that Petrovic will be in charge of "the company's ongoing efforts to integrate digital media into the company's multi-channel strategy." Petrovic was previously the Vice President of Digital Media at Playboy Enterprises.
