The last major update for Valve's multiplayer shooter Team Fortress 2 (the Spy/Sniper upgrade) introduced an item drop system that caused many TF2 fans to go bananas. In a new chat with fan site CommunityFortress, Valve's Robin Walker admits the item drop system didn't really work out as planned.
He states, "I think we've learned that the random drop system is only good for some types of things, like the rare cosmetic hats" adding that new TF2 players also benefit from the item drop system. However he admits, " For competitive players, it's obviously a bad way to deliver items." For future character class updates, Walker states that they may stick with players making achievements to unlock new items but also says, " . . .we might move to a mode where we just give them to you."

HAHAH. I knew it was too messed up for Valve to be totally behind it. I agree that it helped with the new users and people who were trying the weekend free. So in the long run- it was really all about getting more customers, which is okay with me... more noobs to pick on. ;3Posted at 4:39PM on Jul 22nd 2009 by ZaxCG2
