"Call of Duty" added back to Modern Warfare 2 title . . .kind of

At first Activision seemed to be calling Infinity Ward's next first person shooter game by the title Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2. When the official announcement came in a few months ago, the long awaited game was simply called Modern Warfare 2. Now a new mockup of the game's final retail box indicates Activision has put in the recognizable "Call of Duty" in the title yet again.

The image is legit since it came from a link supplied by Infinity Ward's community manage. However, judging from the small font of "Call of Duty" on the box it's also clear that Activision wants to put the emphasis on the "Modern Warfare 2" part of the name. Indeed, Activision seemed to admit that kind of attitude in its official statement to Big Download:

Infinity Ward's Modern Warfare 2 is the direct sequel to Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare. We have focused our attention on Modern Warfare in order to most effectively communicate the fact that this is the first true sequel in the Call of Duty series. Infinity Ward, the original creators of the Call of Duty franchise, has said from the beginning Modern Warfare 2 resides in the Call of Duty universe. This is reflected in the title's package.

Regardless, the game will sell millions of copies this November even if they called it Modern Warfare 2: Electric Boogaloo.
