Champions Online open beta to begin August 17? [Update]

We've had a ton of MMO news today so why not one more bit of info to round out the day? According to VG247.com developer Cryptic Studios will finally launch the open beta for their long awaited super hero MMO Champions Online on August 17, about two weeks before the final version of the game will launch on September 1 via publisher Atari.

According to the story people already in the closed beta test will find that the playable hours will expand to weekends beginning July 17. When the open beta begins it will be online for 24 hours a day until the final retail version launches.

Update:According to a post on the game's official message boards from Cryptic's community manager, "These dates are by no means finalized, and are working dates that are most likely going to change."

Additionally, the "level cap" in that article is incorrect. There is currently no level cap for characters in the beta. (Besides hitting the maximum level of 40, that is.)Posted at 2:31AM on Jul 9th 2009 by kaion
