Codemasters may be the first publisher to officially announce a game that will use DirectX11, the next version of Microsoft's 3D graphics API that will be included in Windows 7 when it's released on October 22. That game happens to be DiRT 2, the upcoming off-road racing sequel (known in the UK as Colin McRea: DiRT 2). Unfortunately, the use of DirectX11 will mean that the PC version will be delayed until December (it will still be released on consoles in September).
According to the press release, this move will allow the PC port to support the new graphical features of DirectX11 such as "hardware tessellation, multi-threading and Shader Model 5.0." AMD will be supporting Codemasters by providing their input on "software engineering expertise in DirectX 11 technologies such as tessellation and shader modelling."

Neat that they'll be doing DX11, too bad I'm not about to drop $900 to buy Win7 and a new video card for a racing game. I'll stick with my DX10 cards for a while to come (though I'll likely go to Win7, at least...)Posted at 2:11PM on Jul 6th 2009 by Kevin

And remember, this game is also a Games For Windows Live title, meaing you can link it to your gamercard for the achievements. And there is also the Live interface for online multiplayer and chat functions.
Cross-plat would rock, but more GFWL titles is always a good thing. Also, speaking of Codemasters, I FINALLY found a retail copy of Fuel PC and I will be picking it up after work. YAY ME!
