EA CFO: 'The PC is becoming the largest gaming platform in the world'

Electronic Arts is one of the biggest publishers of PC games and it's clear that the company still sees the PC platform as an important one for their business. During Tuesday's regular financial conference call with analysts (you can listen to the repeat on EA's web site) the company's chief financial officer Eric Brown stated, "In terms of distribution, the way we look at a lot what's happening in the future is, we've got probably a billion PCs out there in the world. Very rapidly the PC is becoming the largest gaming platform in the world, just not in a packaged-goods product."

Brown made the point to emphasize the PC as a way to distribute games online and said that revenue from their digitally distributed game titles came in at $80 million in the last fiscal year, double what it was in the previous year. Now if we can only get EA to get their sports games back on the PC . . .
