While The Creative Assembly's release of Empire: Total War has been a sales success, the same cannot be say of their other RTS game released last month. The sci-fi themed game Stormrise has so far not appeared on the NPD Group's top 10 best selling PC games list. Now it appears that the game will no longer be receiving any more patches.
According to a post on the game's official community site, a planned patch for Stormrise has now been canceled. The reason is apparently monetary as the statement said the decision was ". . . due to costs and risks associated with testing and certifying the new changes and features." The PC version of the game is one of the very few released PC titles that can only run on Windows Vista and DirectX10-supported graphics cards. So folks who might be thinking about buying the game might have to think twice.

Everyone has the right to their own opinion, but I would point out that their average user score was 3.2 after over 200 votes. Their average critic score is roughly the same. I'm confident their are better games out there for people to spend their money on. Especially when the developer seems to be pulling support for it.

To be clear about the patch - this cancelled patch was an improvement patch.
The game itself is completely playable, but it does have some faults to it. But the game can be played to completion as it is now, and the multiplayer is still one of the better facets of this game.
You can get this one now for around $20 USD from places GoGamer.com. It is not bad unto itself, but it does have some gameplay issues which people were hoping the #2 patch would improve upon. Oh well.
GFWL - Gamespot's review aside, you can play this game better than they can if you are willing to try.Posted at 2:19PM on Apr 30th 2009 by SidearmS
