Several days ago Valve released an update for Team Fortress 2 that added some odd new features to the multiplayer shooter. The release notes included things like "added the ability for players to permanently delete items from their inventory using the new Backpack menu." A new slot for headgear for the game's character classes was added in the patch as well. In a new chat on Shacknews, Valve's Robin Walker hints that these small changes are just the beginning of their plans for future updates.
Walker did say the headgear that will be added in a future patch will be purely cosmetic. However he hints, " . . .it's obviously more interesting if they become more than that, so we're still thinking about that." And the inventory change? Walker states, "The reason we shipped it in the last update, even though there was no real reason at all to use it, was to get some real world testing. So thanks to the 270 people who went ahead and deleted items!." Ultimately Walker states, "It'll provide multiple ways for players to get items, with a plan to add more over time." So don't worry; it doesn't sound like Valve is turning the game into World of Team Fortress . . . yet.
