After just a few months of the announcement, today is the day that UK-based Eidos will become a part of the Japanese based company Square Enix. On Tuesday, Eidos announced that a court has approved the takeover, which was the final hurdle to making the deal final.
As a result of the acquisition, Eidos' shares have been taken off the UK stock market and its stockholders have received 32 pence for each share of stock in the company they own. The deal between the two companies was first announced in mid-February. It's currently unclear if the Eidos brand name will continue to be used in the new Square Enix regime.

Yes, more Thief and more Tomb Raider PLZ!!!
Goog, I don't think you need to worry too much about SE Japanisizing the western franchises. The whole point of them buying Eidos and partnering with companies like Gas Powered Games is for them to get some western games in their line-up and appeal more to the western audience. I think they'll give these companies a lot of freedom to make the software they make best. Though I wouldn't mind seeing some sort of fun crazy cross-over concepts too.

Does this news mean that the final nail has been hammered into the coffin of any hope that we might see a continuation of the thief franchise? I NEED MORE THIEF! also, is lara croft going to start dressing like a cheesy final fantasy character? hmmmm this will be interesting to see. Posted at 10:14AM on Apr 22nd 2009 by goog9
