We have a lot of affection for the Redneck Rampage shooter series. The Build engine titles from developer Xatrix and publisher Interplay may have been blue collar and vulgar but they were still fun games that made us laugh. Now IncGames has posted up a story that implies that Blizzard may be making a new game in the series.Their evidence? The US trademark to the Redneck Rampage license is listed as being held by Blizzard Entertainment Holdings. Unfortunately IncGamers's article doesn't quite tell the whole story. Several years ago Interplay, who was getting rid of a number of their properties in order to stay alive, sold their Redneck Rampage rights to Vivendi Games That company owned Blizzard as one of their subsidiaries. However the publisher never did anything new with the game franchise. Since then Vivendi Games merged with Activision to form Activision Blizzard. So it's more accurate to say that it's Activision Blizzard, and not just Blizzard, that owns the Redneck Rampage rights.
IncGames engages in speculation that Blizzard might be working on a Redneck Rampage shooter in their article but that's all it really is. Personally we want a new game in the series but we may have to wait a long time before that happens.
