Stardock CEO speaks about OnLive

With the announcement this week on the OnLive service we wanted to see what established game download services felt about this upcoming company and their streaming game technology. Stardock CEO Brad Wardell, who launched the Impulse game download service last year, was happy to answer our questions:

When asked about his first rection to the OnLive announcement, Wardell told Big Download: "I'm always excited about technologies that make cool stuff available to more people. That said, I'm a little skeptical of the viability of OnLive. For instance, it seems like if this technology was ready, the first use of it would be to license it to video streaming services since latency is a serious issue there."

When asked his opinion on if the OnLive service would work as advertised, Wardell told us, "I think it can do what it can do under ideal circumstances. But most people on the Internet don't have remotely ideal network connections. An occasionally lost packet and your gaming experience becomes unbearable." Finally when asked if OnLive could be a serious competitor to Stardock's Impulse service, Wardell said, "I don't see OnLive as a competitor at all. I think it serves a totally different market segment."
