Former Diablo developer questions Diablo III's art direction

The announcement of Diablo IIi last year has made a number of gamers excited to play Blizzard's third game in the acclaimed fantasy action-RPG series. However, a few have been critical of the directions the game has taken. particularly the more colorful look to the game's art style.

VideoGamer.com has an article with quotes from Bill Roper who was one of the main creators of the first two Diablo games before jumping ship to form the now shut down Flagship Studios. While Roper is now working for Cryptic Studios he expressed some opinions on Diablo III's art style.

Roper is quoted as saying, " I can't say that I dislike it. I didn't look at it and go, oh my God that's horrible. But I looked at it and went, it's not really... to me as a player it just didn't really ring with Diablo." While there have been some fans who have asked Blizzard to change the game's look it looks like the designers are sticking to what they have.
