Earlier this year we reported that 1C Company had inked a deal with Aspyr Media to release a number of their games to retail stores in the US. However if you don't want to fool with that old-fashioned brick-and-mortal approach to buying your games you can also download all of the 1C titles from the Gamersgate download service. The agreement begins today with Gamersgate offering up the WWII RTS game Men of War on their service for $39.99. In the next couple of months other 1C Company games will be released as digital downloads on Gamersgate including the action-racing game Death Track: Resurrection (March 24), the first person shooter Cryostasis (April 20) the racing sim Hummer 4x4 (May 22) and the first person shooter Necrovision (May 25).

Extremely lame. Not that I'm heart broken over 1C company games or anything but the whole 'exclusive' thing is a slippery slope that is very bad for consumers. I don't do GamersGate so it's a good thing that I'm not interested in any of the games listed. If there was a game there I wanted, I would be pretty pissed and depending on the game would basically cause it to be crossed of my shopping list. I tried GamersGate before and it was an okay-ish experience but I don't trust them to be around for more than a few years and when they're gone, so are their DRM activation servers, and so are my games. For me it's Steam, Impulse, GoG, or nothing. I hope the whole exclusive content thing doesn't catch on because just about anything platform or service specific leaves burned consumers in it's wake.
