InstantAction.com says most PC games can run via their browser service
But that apparently wasn't the whole story. Our sister site GameDaily is reporting that InstantAction.com is even more ambitious and is launching their new InstantAction Technology today, along with removing the "beta" tag from the actual web site. The company claims that almost any PC game, even those on the high end of graphics, could be run via their technology on a web browser page.
In a chat with InstantAction general manager Andy Yang, he claims, " We have integrated existing PC games in as little as 1-2 hours." In addition they can add features like chat, matchmaking, leaderboards and more. Once the game is ported over to the InstantAction.com service, Yang states, "The business model is anything the developer/publisher wants it to be," While free-to-play versions are an option a publisher could also support ads and microtransactions for their games.
InstantAction obviously wants other developers and publishers to use their technology. Yang states, "We have a number of conversations happening right now that we can't talk about, but we do expect to make some exciting announcements in the coming year."

How about being able to play a game you left at home at your friends house?Posted at 3:39PM on Feb 24th 2009 by Jeff
My solution is sticking to Steam or Impulse purchased games whenever possible - or even GameTap. That way, I never really leave a game at home. I guess streaming through a browser would make a better alternative than spending 2hrs downloading a game, and it would certainly save on hard drive space. Using a browser as a platform might also solve system requirement and/or Mac/PC compatibility issues. But I'm skeptical about the bandwidth and response. I'd need to see InstantAction work with a game using high-end graphics to be convinced of its usefulness.Posted at 5:47PM on Feb 24th 2009 by Steven Wong
My quibble with their claim is simply download times. Say for example, Half-Life 2 was possible on this platform. How on earth do you stream something that massive?!
I wont dismiss it, but I'm not quite sure how true their claims will turn out to be.Posted at 6:58PM on Feb 24th 2009 by maty

Soooo... why do I want to run my games from a web browser??? What do I get out of that? I don't want to go to a web page to start a game. I just want to click on the short and it to run.
