Blizzard to bypass E3 2009

It looks like one half of the biggest third party game publisher has decided not to attend the revamped E3 this June after all. Giant Bomb reports that a Blizzard Entertainment spokesperson has told them they "will not be attending or participating in E3 2009." Earlier this week the Activision half of Activision Blizzard announced their return to E3 after not attending the 2008 show (although they did hold a separate press conference the week of E3).

It's likely that Blizzard has decided to concentrate its own marketing and press efforts on its two major fan events; the Blizzard Invitational (where Starcraft II and Diablo III were first announced) and BlizzCon (where last year we learned that Starcraft II would be released as three stand alone games). Certainly the company has generated tons of press from the announcements made from those two events in the past. Blizzard might think any coverage of their games at E3 might not get as much attention with everyone else coming to the show.
