So when does Electronic Arts really plan to launch their long awaited free multiplayer shooter Battlefield Heroes? In a new supplement to today's financial report at EA's investor site, the publisher had a list of games they plan to release this quarter and Battlefield Heroes is one of the games on the list, meaning they expect to to launch by the end of March.

But the question is, "Does that really mean anything?" The Digital Illusions-developed game was supposed to officially launch in the summer of 2008 and then the launch date got pushed back to the end of 2008. While the team let a select few play the game in a closed beta test for a while, DICE surprised everyone in November 2008 when they announced they were shutting down the closed beta to work on the back end portion of the game. It was only a couple of weeks ago that they began to once again let people sign up to beta test the game. It's now early February and the closed beta has yet to launch once again. So when you see some reports about a release date for the game, take it with a grain of salt.
