Congratulations, soldier: you survived another week. It's Friday afternoon, and instead of going out partying with your friends, you're anxious to get home, sit down at your computer, and play some new games. Sounds fun! Too bad you're broke. Lucky for you, PC gaming has an impressive library of classic games that are available online for cheap. Hang out with us every Friday so we can take you on a guided tour of some of the greatest bargains available throughout the many tubes of the Internet.
Welcome Big Download's Virtual Bargain Bin, the cure for your weekend gaming woes. This week's classics: Beneath a Steel Sky and Lure of the Temptress.
Listen up, cheapskate. If you're broke from all of your Christmas shopping and looking for one more PC game to give to the gamer on your list, don't break out your wallet -- Good Old Games, the home of classic PC gaming, is picking up the tab on these classic games.
Lure of the Temptress
Price: $0.00
Availability: Good Old Games (GOG.com)
Lure of the Temptress is two things: a classic point-and-click adventure game, and free. That's right. The only thing you'll have to shell out to succumb to the Tempress's apparent lure is some wits. Originally released in the early 90s glory age of the adventure genre, Lure of the Temptress made use of an innovative Virtual Theater system in which NPCs walk around and go about their tasks regardless of your presence and interactions. This seemingly simple mechanic adds a nice touch of realism to gaming, which in these early years (and even in our modern times) largely nailed NPCs' feet to pixelated floor.
Perhaps the best part -- besides being FREE -- is that Lure of the Temptress won't burden your hard drive with one, two, or three gigabytes of required installation space. 12 megabytes of disk space is all you'll have to sacrifice to test your point-and-click skills against Selena the Temptress.

Beneath a Steel Sky
Price: $0.00
Availability: Good Old Games (GOG.com)
Equally as free as Lure of the Temptress, Beneath a Steel Sky is another adventure classic that's not only easy on your wallet and hard disk (only 71MB required), but on the eyes as well. Majestic artwork and a fascinating narrative provide the backdrop for protagonist Robert Foster who has found himself stranded in an unfamiliar city filled with pollution. The rich dwell underground, safe from the corruption eating away at the unfortunate land dwellers above them.

Being caught in the throes of pollution hasn't been kind to land walkers, many of whom have become paranoid due to the inevitable poison and death that awaits them. Players must guide Robert in his goal to stop the evil corporation and dangerous criminals behind the pollution -- or die trying.
Adventure games thrive on a strong story to drive their sometimes tedious gameplay, and Beneath a Steel Sky does not disappoint in this regard. The theme of oppression is one not often explored in gaming, and should make for a refreshing bit of contemplative gaming this holiday season.
