Download: Grand Theft Auto IV Patch #1 [Update]
Update: There is apparently an issue with the new patch that is causing problems for some gamers's controllers (both Mouse/Keyboard and Xbox 360 Windows controller). Rockstar has posted up a workaround over at the GTAForums.com message board.

So....Rockstar released a patch that was supposed to fix the games multiple issues and instead it created some new ones? That's ironic.Posted at 9:27AM on Dec 13th 2008 by Hashbrown Hunter
i feel obligated to post on this site that even after downloading this patch an the new ati drivers,AND overclocking my graphics card performance has not increased what so ever..i would really put off purchasing this game until at least a patch purely dedicated to performance is released! this game REALLY REALLY does perform worse than Crysis or any other game out on the market..believe me,i've been buying them all! my comp does 60 fps average on fallout 3 an 40 fps average in Crysis but this game has it floating between 14-17 fps at all times..cut scenes seem to be recorded at 22fps! i'm just lucky i got this game as a gift! hope this really helps someones buying decision for this game!Posted at 9:32AM on Dec 13th 2008 by knightsray
I hope so that it works!Posted at 12:38PM on Dec 13th 2008 by Someone
This game is a steaming pile of waste.
Right now at this very moment, there is a GAME WITH DEVELOPERS going on the PC version of this with the Rockstar folks.
Two problems:
1)NO ONE FROM ROCKSTAR SEEMS TO BE ON. Really. NONE OF THE GT's are online.
2)Even when the social club lets you log in (I had to make a second account because my first will not validate), and you find a MP game, I keep getting kicked and the game telling me "You are running too slow".
Understand I have a 1GIG 9400, and every other GFWL title FLIES with it and this system. But this game? NOPE. I have all video options on "LOW" or set to "1" or "0", my task manager is clear, and nothing is running the background except what the game needs. And it still runs like utter trash.
This game makes the issues with Crysis almost quaint. I am never buying another RS game. This was very first, and it will be my last.
XBox 360 - So pissed at RS that you get the 360 watermark today.Posted at 1:36PM on Dec 13th 2008 by SidearmS
This is the biggest blunder since... Duke Nukem Forever got delayed the first time.
patch making more problems, the r*crap personal are hiding because people are just attacking them with no mercy... seriously... what a mess up this game is. Posted at 2:31PM on Dec 13th 2008 by Beastage
On the plus side, they did fix the flickering shadows and car damage issues for x1950 cards so I'm happy about that. However, the graphics corruption in the internet and the complete inability to see a thing in the pool hall are still not fixed, which makes those parts of the game pointless.Posted at 3:31PM on Dec 13th 2008 by Dan Spears
That patch had to go through Microsoft's certification, but there's still issues like that. That is sad.Posted at 6:21PM on Dec 13th 2008 by DePetri
Well I could play the game before (badly) and now it won't even start. Never buying another PC game from fucking Rockstar ever again. First Bully, now this. Fuck them.

Installed the patch and the game appears to run slightly better. Was quite playable before, now it's better :) I did originally have problems with the game but increasing the ram fixed that. I'm running this on XP with a Intel Q6600 and Nvidia 9600 GT with 3.25 gigs of ram. Try running the game on a decent system before whining. Rockstar has made another great game!!Posted at 1:15AM on Dec 25th 2008 by Rob
Is anyone else really dismayed by the fact that this patch has a "NUMBER ONE" on the end of the title, implying that they're going to be releasing further patches? Seriously, we already had to wait an extra nine months or so to get the PC version after the PS3 and X360, was it not enough to ask for them to even get the patch right, much less the game itself upon release?? How is it that a game that had somewhere in the vicinity of a thousand people working on it now clearly has a skeleton crew bringing it to PC?!?
I basically had to reinstall Windows and buy three new peripherals in order to even play this game. When I sent an email to the publisher for tech support after I had problems getting it to start, I got a response saying: "Wait for the next patch (yes, the game was already patched)." And even after I'd got the damn game working, it still had issues with crashing and audio problems. Yes, the patch makes it run better, but it causes about three or four other problems that I can notice. This is just lazy, Rockstar.
It IS a good game, the physics engine is revolutionary, yadda yadda yadda. But if you're reading this and wondering whether GTAIV for PC is actually a good game TO BUY - it isn't. It just isn't. Go play Farcry 2 instead; I am.Posted at 7:14PM on Dec 27th 2008 by Davos

Will you guys be doing a follow-up post about how this has affected your issues? Still putting off purchasing this, partly because I'm broke but I want to see it fixed first too :)Posted at 8:38AM on Dec 13th 2008 by Sokkratez
