Host and games announced for Spike TV Video Game Awards event
Black's appearance as host is almost certainly timed to work with some world premiere game footage of the long delayed Double Fine title Brutal Legend (Black is one of the voices in the game). Other games that will have new footage shown at the event include the game adaptations of the movies Terminator Salvation and Watchmen. New footage will also be shown of Mafia II, the Illusion Softworks open world crime action game that we haven't seen in a long time in any form. More surprise announcements are supposedly in the works. As we have previously reported, Sims and Spore creator Will Wright will receive the first ever "Gamer God" award from Spike TV at the event.

what did you expect from Spike?Posted at 5:49PM on Dec 2nd 2008 by born2expire
The Spike TV Video Game Awards are a stain on the surface of the gaming world. Why do they act like they are something in the business, or know anything about it? Why should Jack Black, who's not even informed, or funny for that matter, host the show? What's up with the goofy format aimed at 10 year olds and below? Do they think the only people playing video games are immature or mentally challenged? It was almost painful to watch how awkward the game industry people felt among those clowns. And the continuous US army commercials were the icing on the dung cake. Way to go confusing the minds of the young ones between video games (adrenalin rush in a safe, virtual environment) and war.Posted at 1:08AM on Dec 15th 2008 by Sumit28

Sounds absolutely WRETCHED. Black is one of the most obnoxious personalities in pop culture and has already ruined my anticipation for Tim Shaffer's next game. I would say that he is now ruining the spike awards but they were ruined as soon as the idea was hatched. Really... REALLY... legit gaming websites like this need to stop reporting on the spike awards in any way shape and form because it only lends them credence when they have none and helps to legitimize the pathetic pageantry that it repents.
