Left 4 Dead goes gold; pre-loading begins on Steam

It's perhaps the biggest FPS being sold this fall and now Valve has announced that their zombie co-op shooter Left 4 Dead is finally code and feature complete. In other words it has "gone gold" , meaning that the core game is finished and ready to head to retail stores.

For folks who use Valve's Steam download service, going gold means something different. Since there's no disk involved the folks who pre-ordered the game via Steam can now go ahead and pre-load the game onto their hard disks. On Nov. 18 they will be able to unlock the game and begin playing with no disk install at all. Meanwhile the free demo of the game will still be available for anyone to play via Steam until Nov. 17.
