Japanese Fallout 3 players won't deal with "the bomb"
Now comes word that the Japanese version of Fallout 3, due for release on Dec. 4, will eliminate an early quest in the game. According to the Japanese Bethesda Softworks web site (here's the Google translation) the game will get rid of a critical choice in regards to an undetonated nuclear device in the game (we won't spoil that choice for those of you who haven't played it yet). Other things such as Ghouls and Gore Bags have been changed eliminated for the Japanese game release.

I wonder how they're going to remove Ghouls from the game. They're all over the place, and a couple of quests involve interacting with them.Posted at 4:20PM on Nov 13th 2008 by Steven Wong
I understand the cultural sensitivity, but the whole premise of the game is "So there was this huge nuclear war, and then..." -- it's pretty much still out there, you know? Why not just leave the whole game intact, rather than taking out *some* of the references?Posted at 9:13PM on Nov 13th 2008 by James
Everyone is too damn sensitive now a days. Remember the good old days when people didn't cry about everything in the world offending them??Posted at 6:45PM on Nov 14th 2008 by Jay
Give me a break. The game's theme is nuclear apocolypse and centers around a nuked D.C. area. A barely inhabitable wasteland. There's going to be some messed up things, and that's the whole premise of the game. There's no sense in getting all butthurt about an undetonated nuke, or a highly radiated human being. Hell, why don't they just make it into a Pokemon adventure instead.
The gore bag? Yeah that's what brain-dead supermutants are into. Ripping humans limb from limb and eating them. It adds a very inhuman identity to beings who have lost their humanity.
This game gets 4.5 out of 5 stars from me. If you don't want to play a somewhat horrific vision of a not-so-doubtful future of America, then DON'T BUY THE GAME.
For the rest of us gamers who had this game on reserve, we absolutely ate it up. It kinda sucks that the character level is capped at 20, but by that point you're so tough that very few things will be a challenge to you. Also sucks that you can't have more than one "ally" and you can't give them specific instructions like the tactical Fallout: Brotherhood of Steel. They tend to do really, REALLY stupid things.
In short, buy this game if you're 17+. You will love it. Too gory and profane for kids younger than that, but they can suck it up and play their Mario games.Posted at 7:53PM on Nov 14th 2008 by Chris

I am actually surprised they made it get changed. I can understand the bomb thing and all. But, the gore is a little weird. Especially when they have games like Ninja Gaiden and Dead Rising out there.Posted at 8:20PM on Nov 11th 2008 by Erik Stroud
