The folks at CCP are holding their annual FanFest for their space based MMO EVE Online right now in Iceland and Eurogamer reports that the team has shown footage during the event of what looks like a first person shooter title that might be set in the EVE Online universe.
According to the article the footage showed a "Halo-like shooter on a daylit, Earth-like planet surface" that shared a similar art design with EVE Online. Developers have also hinted that they are looking into developing console games so perhaps an EVE-centric shooter would be a good entry point. CCP is known to be developing another new MMO, World of Darkness, but there's no work yet on that game's development.

Personally, I think this is really cool. Interesting that they're branching out the core MMO game experience, where you're essentially your ship, into an avatar-based expansion (Walking in Stations) and now the first person shooter.
I think some players are concerned, though, that with the company spreading its attention across these different extensions of EVE, the core game won't get as much love. Certainly hope that's not the case -- I don't think it will be. Posted at 11:28AM on Nov 9th 2008 by James Egan
